Castors for storage of medium loads: personalized solutions

When considering adding castors to chests, trunks, or storage systems, it is essential to take into account several factors to ensure efficient mobility of the equipment.

We often don’t think carefully about all the aspects that can affect the overall functioning of our storage systems. When storing objects, whether for long periods where they remain static or for short periods with constant mobility, it is crucial to consider the specificity of the job. For example, the difference between a delivery cart and a locker is significant, as the former will experience greater wear and tear when rolling over uneven surfaces, while the locker will remain static.

Below, we will explain everything you need to consider when selecting the right casters for a specific task.

Characteristics

First of all, it is essential to think about the following points, as they will directly influence the choice of wheels:

1. Load capacity: Check the load capacity of the castors in relation to the total weight of the equipment plus the weight of the items to be stored. It is always advisable to leave a small margin of additional load to avoid reaching the limit.

2. Wheel material: Each material has different properties, so we must consider the type of surface on which the wheels will be used, looking for wear resistance and durability.

3. Transport surface: The wheels must be adapted to the surface on which the object will travel, depending on the type of terrain. For example, if the object is rolling on an uneven surface, wheels with larger and wider tyres will be required.

4. Size and Diameter: Consider the size and diameter of the wheels in relation to the equipment you are moving. Larger wheels make it easier to move on uneven surfaces, while smaller wheels are suitable for tight spaces.

5. Fixing types: Castors can have different types of fitting, such as swivel, fixed or with brake. Swivels allow greater manoeuvrability, while fixed wheels provide stability. If you need the equipment to remain stationary, consider casters with brakes.

6. Chemical and Corrosion Resistance: If the castor is going to be exposed to chemicals or corrosive conditions, choose wheels that are resistant to these elements to extend its useful life.

  • Material: Polyamide
  • Main Feature: This castor can lift up to 15mm off the ground thanks to a rubber foot. This way it remains fixed, and the wheel itself acts as a leg.

Tool carts

Weight (Kg): 50kg – 500kg approximately.

Tool carts, also called shop carts, are mobile storage units designed to efficiently organize and transport tools. Given their constant mobility and corrosive environment, wheels resistant to chemicals and metal shavings, are necessary.

  • Material: Polypropylene centre and polyurethane tread
  • Main Feature: Long-lasting with no wear. High resistance to oils and greases. Quiet, clean, and non-deformable.

Storage crates
